Piedmont
Private Wine Guide · Piedmont, Italy
Alessio is a working winemaker in Piedmont, not a guide who learned the region from a book. He produces his own Nebbiolo under the Marin Falcone label, which means he arrives at every cellar as a peer, not a visitor. The producers he takes guests to, including Macarini, Pira, Ettore Germano, and Paolo Scavino, are the ones he knows from inside the winemaking community, not the ones that appear first in a search.
The tours cover Barolo, Barbaresco, and Roero, and run as deeply or as broadly as the guest needs. He communicates thoroughly before the day to understand what you're looking for, then builds accordingly. At most estates he pulls out the MGA book, the official classification of the 181 named Barolo crus and 66 Barbaresco crus, and walks guests through exactly which vineyards they're tasting from and why the distinctions matter. A wine industry professional from the US described it plainly: he took them to small, family-owned estates where the owners poured for them personally, and they still learned things they hadn't known after years in the trade.
Alessio selects producers based on personal relationships, not itinerary templates. The estates his guests visit are family-run operations in Barolo, Barbaresco, and Roero that receive visitors by introduction, not by walk-in.
