How The Cellar Guest works

The Cellar Guest is a vetted directory of private wine tour guides. Guides are listed based on vetting criteria: wine credentials, demonstrated access to producers not available through public booking platforms, and an intake process that engages with each traveler’s knowledge level and preferences before building a visit.

There is no fee to be listed. Listing decisions are not influenced by payment, relationship, or outreach. Guides who meet the criteria are listed. Guides who no longer meet them are removed.

The directory is editorially independent. The Cellar Guest does not route inquiries, take commission, or stand between a traveler and a guide.

Travelers contact you directly via the email and website shown on your listing.

Vetting and re-vetting

Every listed guide is re-vetted on an ongoing basis. The criteria don’t change year to year, but circumstances do: businesses close, ownership changes, quality shifts. Reviews are ongoing. We’ll reach out if we have questions, but decisions are made against the same criteria used for listing.

If you’ve been removed and want to understand why, contact us at the address below.

The full vetting criteria are on the How We Vet page.

Your listing

The information in your listing is drawn from publicly available sources and our vetting research. If something is factually wrong (a credential listed incorrectly, a region out of date, contact information that has changed), we want to know.

What you can request:

  • A factual correction (credential, region, contact detail)
  • A photo update (see below)
  • Removal from the directory

What we don’t accept:

  • Requests to change editorial copy or assessments
  • Requests for placement changes within the directory
  • Self-nominations from operators (see Referrals below if you know a guide who should be considered)

Photos

Each listing has the option to display one photo. This is your photo that represents you and your operation.

We use what you send as-is with the exception of cropping to fit the page layout.

If you’d like to update or replace your listing photo, send a single image to the address below.

Photo requirements:

  • JPEG or PNG, minimum 1200px on the shortest side
  • Horizontal orientation preferred (the listing displays a 3:2 crop)
  • A photo that shows the guide in context works best: a cellar, a vineyard, a tasting room.
  • File name: your name or business name, lowercase, hyphens only (example: isabelle-morel-burgundy.jpg)

Removal

If you’d like to be removed from the directory, contact us. We’ll remove the listing promptly. No explanation required on your end, though we’re happy to hear if something prompted the request.

Referrals

If you think we’ve missed a guide who belongs here, tell us. Referrals from travelers, industry contacts, or other guides are one of the ways we find operators to evaluate. Send the details to hello@thecellarguest.com and we’ll assess them against the same criteria used for every listing. A referral isn’t a guarantee of a listing — it’s a lead we’ll look into.

Contact

For corrections, photo updates, or removal requests: hello@thecellarguest.com

Include your name and the nature of the request in the subject line. We respond to all requests, typically within a few business days.

The list is short because the standard is high, and not everyone we vet makes the list.
