Bordeaux
Private Wine Guide · Bordeaux, France
Wendy has been in France for more than 40 years and in the Bordeaux wine trade for more than 30 of them. British-born, she moved to Sauternes after marrying into a Bordeaux wine family. She has lectured at the Ecole du Vin de Bordeaux since 1997 and trained the Bordeaux Wine Council's international wine educators; she is also trade educator for the Médoc Wine Council, a member of the Association of Wine Educators, and the author of Bordeaux Bootcamp, her guide to the Bordeaux appellations.
Her family ran a 1er Cru Classé Sauternes estate for nearly 30 years, and she is now restoring a family property in Entre-deux-Mers. Her access to estates across Bordeaux's appellations comes from those personal connections.
The châteaux worth visiting in Bordeaux, where the tasting is a real conversation rather than a script, tend to open their doors for people they know. Wendy's 30 years in the trade and her family's ties to estates in Sauternes and Entre-deux-Mers give her those relationships from both ends of the appellation map.
